Description:

This is a special week since I've just been at Bonnaroo 2007; so I'm posting 10 songs instead of the usual 5! These top 10 songs from Bonnaroo 2007 are mostly bands I knew already plus a few bands I discovered at the festival. Also, check out my Public Photo Album and the Videos I took from the audience. I apologize in advance for the terrible quality of the videos (both audio and video quality), the Pictures are much better than the videos.

But why?

1. Ok I don't think much of Fergie... actually I think the Black Eyed Peas would be better off without her. She's an average looking mediocre singer who's solo project survives by ripping off ideas from gwen stefani. No thank you. The bass in this song will shake your neighbors through their walls though.

2. Outkast is definately the most creative and clever hip hop group around. I love their affinity toward jazz.

3. Any song that opens with a beatles sample (sped up or not) catches my attention. This song is degrading toward women and full of potty mouth. Good wholesome rap music. erm... don't play this mixtape for your grandmother... or your mother... or my mother.

4. Natasha is so white she's almost not, but she got some big time producers (Steve Kipner among them) on this album and the bass is tight!

5. I love the production on this song. of course it makes your subs rumble all nice and what, but this also: that violin sample rocks my socks. It's the slidy high-pitched one that plays when all the other music cuts out. I also like the bridge because of all the bit crushing. I love bit crushing.

But why?

1. Dangermouse (Producer) is my hero. You can check out his other projects on wikipedia; Gnarls Barkley is also. The Gorillaz website is also pretty awesome.

2. I discovered this song by way of iTunes' single of the week, which I highly recommend. A free song from an upcoming artist every week is pretty sweet, especially if finding new music is as exciting for you as it is for me! Anyhow, Shiny Toy Guns garnered most of their popularity through myspace... who would've guessed?

3. These crazy brits aren't as techno-esque as the rest of these songs... just turn up the bass and don't complain. Banquet is the single... and I seriously considered using the Phones Disco Edit from Silent Alarm Remixed, but decided that version was too long. I think Remixes are generally a bit long winded and only really good for dance clubs.

4. Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) used to be in the Faint... but they kicked him out before they found their sound. Thank god for that... synth-pop with a whiny singer just wouldn't have the same appeal. They managed to snag a spot on the same record label as good old Conor though!

5. I have no excuse for this. I just had to include a little disco... even if it is a new band.

Description:

New Sounds through electronics and sampling: Electronics have had a massive impact on music, especially in the last few years. It's now easier to create new sounds even as they become more complex and realistic.

But why?

'I like the way' to start the mix because of it's energy. I think it comes from the clever use of electric guitar (for a 'dance music' band). I especially like the way they use LPF's to create a feeling of build.

'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' because of the Insane vocoder/midi-guitar solo. I think Daft Punk is one of the most creative electronic bands I've ever heard.

'Smile' because of the deceptively simple electronic beats, and the bitter lyrics, that make me smile. They're just so damn funny, but terrible at the same time.

'Hide and Seek' because vocoder a capella. The vocoder sounds big and warm and the arrangement is very dissonant. I'll admit it... I'm a sucker for vocoders.

'New Born' because of it's intense transitions. It makes a good follow up for 'hide and seek' because of it's semi-quiet synth intro and the dramatic transitions make this song interesting, and fun. Also, Matthew Bellamy's Vocals are brilliant and dark and (for me) they make muse worth listening to.
